NO SHIPPING ~ LOCAL PICKUP ONLY > Hickory Chair Company mahogany butler’s cart from the James River Collection, also appropriately described as a serving cart, dining room server, bar cart, buffet server or tea cart. Measures 36" wide × 20" deep and stands 33-1/2" tall, with a 1-1/2" raised gallery extending along the back and sides of the upper surface. A pull out serving shelf extends 11" from each end and measures 16" wide, expanding the usable serving width to approximately 58". Small brass pulls allow the shelves to be drawn outward when additional space is needed for serving dishes, beverages or barware, then returned beneath the top when not in use. The butler’s cart is designed in the Federal and Regency tradition, combining warm mahogany surfaces with contrasting figured wood banding around the upper edge and drawer fronts. Two full width drawers retain oval brass ring pulls and faux keyhole escutcheons, with an open shelf above providing additional storage or display space. Ring turned supports continue into slender legs fitted with brass ferrules and metal wheel casters, allowing the substantial cart to be repositioned for dining or entertaining. The raised gallery helps contain articles placed upon the upper serving surface, while the finished back allows the piece to be displayed away from a wall. The interior bears the metal label THE JAMES RIVER COLLECTION ~ HICKORY CHAIR COMPANY ~ HICKORY, N.C. Hickory Chair introduced the James River Collection in 1941, drawing upon historic furniture and architectural traditions associated with Virginia’s James River estates. The long running collection became known for traditional American and English inspired forms produced with figured veneers, classical hardware and cabinetmaking details. The butler’s cart coordinates with a matching Hickory Chair James River sideboard included as a separate lot in this auction.
