MEXICAN FOLK ART TREE of LIFE BIRD WOOL TAPESTRY

AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Mexican handwoven wool pictorial tapestry measuring approximately 12" wide × 80" long, exclusive of the hand knotted fringe extending from each end. Woven upon a warm ivory ground, the elongated composition presents a central Tree of Life rising from a striped planter and populated by numerous stylized birds arranged in alternating pairs. The birds are worked in vivid shades of red, orange, yellow, lavender, blue, black and brown, with geometric bodies, pointed crests and elongated tail feathers. Small floral elements appear between the branches, while a pale geometric crown completes the opposite end. The lively bird filled design reflects Mexican folk art weaving traditions and carries a strong Southwestern visual character without representing confirmed American Indian production. The Tree of Life is a longstanding symbolic theme associated with growth, renewal, abundance and the connection between the natural and spiritual worlds. The narrow elongated format allows the textile to serve as a wall hanging, woven tapestry, table runner, textile runner, dresser scarf, folk art textile, rug runner or decorative bed runner. Deep red and brown border bands finish each end above the ivory fringe.
