The upper document presents a November 1935 calendar with November 11 circled above the printed title THE HOUSE BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. Mounted below is an original professional statement from DR. JULIAN G. PALMER ~ OPELIKA, ALA., issued to J. C. Poole, dated 12/1/35, and recording 11/11 ~ OB ~ $25.00. The abbreviation OB refers to obstetrical services, directly connecting the physician’s bill with the circled date and identifying the grouping as a preserved family birth record. Dr. Julian G. Palmer was born November 29, 1896, and died January 18, 1965. He lived and practiced in Opelika, Alabama, and was buried at Rosemere Cemetery there. A Tulane University yearbook record identifies Julian G. Palmer of Opelika, Alabama, and associates him with Alpha Tau Omega, Phi Chi and other campus activities, supporting his medical education at Tulane during the early 1920s. By 1938, Palmer was serving as a Captain in the Medical Corps of the Alabama National Guard, commanding a Medical Department Detachment. That record establishes that he was not merely a local general practitioner but also held a formal military medical appointment shortly after the date of this 1935 obstetrical statement.
