AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Two identical 1977 U.S. Elektra Records 7-inch 45 RPM singles by Queen, each pairing WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS with WE WILL ROCK YOU and retaining the original illustrated picture sleeve. The red Elektra labels identify Catalog No. E-45441, with WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS designated E-45441-A and WE WILL ROCK YOU designated E-45441-B. Freddie Mercury wrote WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, while Brian May wrote WE WILL ROCK YOU; both recordings were produced by Queen with assistance from Mike Stone. The American single was released October 10, 1977. The picture sleeve features the stark robotic face associated with Queen’s NEWS OF THE WORLD album artwork. American science-fiction illustrator Frank Kelly Freas created the celebrated 1977 album image after adapting an earlier robot composition painted for Astounding Science Fiction. The imagery became one of the most recognizable designs connected with Queen and the NEWS OF THE WORLD era. WE WILL ROCK YOU and WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS became permanently linked through the album, radio play and Queen’s live performances, with the two songs commonly presented consecutively. Both developed into enduring arena and sports anthems, giving these matching picture-sleeve singles broad appeal as Queen memorabilia, classic-rock vinyl, Elektra Records releases, 1970s music collectibles and NEWS OF THE WORLD ephemera. CONDITION REPORT > Paper sleeves suffer from varying elements relative to age, handling and material, however well protecting the vinyl records, which appears quite pristine.
