Rare MICKEY MOUSE Reverse Text TROPIX TOGS T-SHIRT

AVAILABLE for SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Vintage children’s Walt Disney Productions Mickey Mouse T-shirt in size small, featuring coordinated front-and-back character graphics and notable single-stitch construction at the sleeve and lower hems. The front depicts Mickey facing forward above bold red MICKEY MOUSE lettering with © WALT DISNEY PRODUCTIONS printed below. The reverse cleverly shows Mickey from behind, with both the MICKEY MOUSE name and the smaller © WALT DISNEY PRODUCTIONS copyright line intentionally printed backward to complete the rear-view effect. The two-sided artwork is an especially inventive period design, extending the front-and-rear character concept into every printed detail rather than simply repeating the same image on both sides. Mickey appears in his familiar red shorts, yellow shoes and white gloves, with the mirrored lettering providing a distinctive visual feature desirable to collectors of vintage Disney apparel and character T-shirts. The original neck tag is marked WALT DISNEY PRODUCTIONS, CHARACTER FASHIONS, DIVISION OF TROPIX TOGS, and LARGE; the attached care label identifies the shirt as a 50% polyester and 50% cotton blend made in the United States. Tropix Togs was a Florida apparel company that became an important early producer of licensed graphic T-shirts, entering into an agreement with Disney during the 1950s to manufacture screen-printed shirts featuring Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters. Its Disney shirts helped establish the character T-shirt as popular souvenir and casual apparel, and surviving Tropix Togs labels are now recognized by collectors as an important identifying feature on early vintage Disney clothing. Mickey Mouse debuted in 1928 and became the defining animated character of the Disney organization. The WALT DISNEY PRODUCTIONS copyright and label wording date the shirt to the period before the corporate name changed to The Walt Disney Company in 1986, while the single-stitch hems further reflect vintage T-shirt manufacturing methods.
