SHIPPING AVAILABLE or LOCAL PICKUP > A vintage Texaco oil and gas promotional Cross Century ballpoint pen with a 1/20 10KT gold-filled finish, engraved TEXACO along the barrel and fitted with the classic Cross pocket clip and black twist cap. The slender executive-style pen displays the CROSS name on the clip and 1/20 10KT GOLD FILLED marking near the upper barrel. Functional, with the twist mechanism extending and retracting the writing point as intended. Texaco traces its history to the Texas Fuel Company, founded in 1901 during the early development of the Texas petroleum industry. The company adopted the Texaco name and built one of the most recognizable service-station brands in America, identified for generations by its red star emblem. Texaco expanded into oil production, refining, gasoline marketing and a nationwide network of filling stations, becoming closely associated with the growth of American automobile travel during the 20th century. Promotional items bearing the TEXACO name were commonly produced for company executives, dealers, employees and business associates, making them desirable examples of petroleum advertising and automobilia. Cross, founded in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1846, became one of America’s best-known makers of fine writing instruments, and its slim Century design became a longstanding corporate gift and presentation pen. The combination of Texaco branding, a gold-filled Cross body and functional condition gives this example appeal to collectors of vintage pens, oil and gas memorabilia, service-station advertising and corporate promotional items.
