A pair of Canadian silver 50-cent coins dated 1942 and 1944. The obverse of each coin features the uncrowned portrait of King George VI facing left, bearing the Latin legend GEORGIVS VI D: G: REX ET IND: IMP: and small initials HP for designer Thomas Humphrey Paget at the base of the neck. The reverse displays the 1921 version of the Canadian coat of arms, featuring a crowned shield supported by a lion and a unicorn holding banners, with the legend 50 CENTS CANADA and the respective date. Designer initials K G for George Kruger Gray are positioned between the shield and the supporters. The coins are struck in .800 fineness silver with reeded edges. Condition: Both examples are in circulated condition, exhibiting moderate surface wear to the high points of the monarch's portrait and the heraldic elements of the reverse. Numerous contact marks and small scratches are present in the fields. Both coins show significant dark toning and tarnish across both faces. The 1944 example features a small area of green verdigris oxidation on the lower rim of the reverse.
