A pair of Canadian silver 50-cent coins dated 1942 and 1951. The obverse of each coin features the left-facing effigy of King George VI, designed by Thomas Humphrey Paget and bearing his HP initials below the truncation. The 1942 coin (KM 36) displays the legend GEORGIVS VI D : G : REX ET IND : IMP :. Following the independence of India in 1947, the 1951 coin features the revised legend GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX. The reverse sides depict the 1921 Canadian Coat of Arms, consisting of a crowned shield supported by a lion and a unicorn above a branch of three maple leaves. Both coins are struck in .800 fine silver with reeded edges. Condition: Both coins exhibit signs of circulation. The 1942 specimen shows moderate wear to the high points of the portrait and heraldic design with a uniform silver patina. The 1951 specimen is characterised by vivid iridescent rainbow toning across the obverse surface.
