Title: Abstract Red Bloom with Dark Green Center on a Pale Green Ground Technique: Gouache on paper Measures: 10.5 x 8 inches (26.7 x 20.3 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with strong, saturated coloration and smoothly brushed, opaque paint with visible directional strokes in the background. No significant losses, tears, or creases are apparent in the available images. Minor surface irregularities, light handling marks, and age-related wear may be present. Presented in a black frame with a rounded profile and a brushed silver-toned inner lip, showing minor surface wear. Not examined out of the frame. Provenance: Private Colelction Visual Description: A close-up, abstracted floral form that fills most of the vertical sheet, reduced to a few bold shapes of color. At the center, a large, irregular ring of saturated scarlet and vermilion, warmed by streaks of orange along its upper left and lower edges, surrounds a deep, rounded opening in dark forest green and emerald. The green interior is subtly modeled, darker at the edges and lighter toward the middle, giving the form a sense of depth like the throat of a poppy or the heart of a blossom seen from directly above. Around the red form, the background sweeps in curving bands of mint, sage, and soft celadon green interspersed with broad passages of white, the brushstrokes following the contours of the central shape and suggesting petals or leaves unfolding outward. A sliver of deeper teal and jade appears at the left edge. The extreme magnification of a natural form, the simplified, sensuous contours, and the strong complementary contrast of red and green reflect the visual language of American modernist abstraction rooted in organic forms. The lower right bears a painted inscription reading "Georgia O'Keeffe." This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
