Title: Stacked Bananas in Yellow and Black on a Cream Ground Technique: Gouache on paper Measures: 11 x 8 inches (27.9 x 20.3 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with bright, clean yellow and crisp black passages. The cream sheet shows light, even toning and a few small scattered specks consistent with age. No significant tears, losses, or creases are apparent in the available images. Minor surface irregularities and light handling marks may be present. Presented in a bronze-toned frame with a brushed, linear finish, showing minor surface wear. Not examined out of the frame. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Acquired by private sale from the private collection of the Fernandes family in Rio de Janeiro to the private collection of the Costa family in Belo Horizonte. Visual Description: A bold still life in which a tall, irregular stack of bananas rises through the center of a vertical cream sheet, leaving generous margins of bare paper on all sides. The fruit is rendered in flat, saturated lemon and golden yellow, overlaid with heavy black contours and blotchy, stencil-like markings that describe ripening spots, stems, and the ridges of the peel. The bananas overlap and interlock at varying angles, some curving upward at the top, others angling downward toward the lower right, creating a dynamic, almost sculptural column that twists as it ascends. The deliberately rough, broken quality of the black marks contrasts with the smooth areas of yellow, giving the image the graphic punch of a printed poster while retaining the irregularities of the hand. Repetition of a single everyday object, the limited two-color palette, and the flat, emblematic presentation recall the graphic vocabulary of Pop Art and its fascination with consumer imagery. Placed vertically along the right side of the stack, a black painted inscription reads "Andy Warhol." This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
