Title: Cubist Figure in a Striped Hat with Profile Shadow Technique: Oil on canvas Measures: 29 x 21 inches (73.7 x 53.3 cm) Year: Undated Condition: Appears in generally good visual condition based on the photographs supplied, with bright, saturated coloration and flat, evenly brushed passages separated by crisp black contour lines. A few small marks are visible in the light blue ground at upper left. No significant paint losses or tears are apparent in the available images. Minor surface irregularities, light handling marks, and age-related wear may be present. Presented in an ornate carved gilt frame with deeply sculpted foliate and scroll motifs, showing variations in the gilded finish. Not examined out of the frame. Condition is described from the photographs supplied. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the condition description. Provenance: Private Colelction Visual Description: A boldly fragmented half-length figure composed of interlocking flat planes of color, set against a background divided diagonally into sky blue above and hot pink and crimson below. The head, wearing a blue hat with a yellow striped brim, is split into facets of periwinkle, mint green, and pale yellow, with two almond-shaped eyes drawn at different heights, a triangular nose, and a wide red-lipped smile showing a row of white teeth. Behind it, a yellow and green silhouette in profile faces left, like a shadow or second presence, while at upper right a yellow, green, and red form suggests a raised arm or a second hat. The torso below is built from angular wedges of lemon yellow, emerald, mint, black, and violet, with a white-edged red and blue garment or object at the bottom center marked by two concentric-circle eyes and two arched white shapes, adding a playful, mask-like note. Thick black outlines define every shape, giving the composition the clarity of stained glass. The fragmented anatomy, simultaneous profile and frontal views, and flat, high-contrast palette reflect the visual language of twentieth-century Cubist and post-Cubist portraiture. The upper right bears a painted inscription reading "Picasso." This composition reflects stylistic elements commonly associated with major figures in modern and contemporary art.
