AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Standing 6" tall and measuring 7" in diameter at the shoulder to the handle, a hand-thrown stoneware pitcher by Joppa Mountain Pottery of Rutledge, Tennessee, dated 2013. The substantial rounded form incorporates a pulled handle and individually shaped pouring lip, with especially expressive glaze work throughout. The upper body carries a softly mottled gray glaze with darker speckling and natural kiln variation, transitioning across the lower body into rich cobalt and indigo blue. Irregular vertical movement, pooling, tonal shifts and overlapping glaze create a distinctive surface, while the handle carries corresponding gray mottling for visual continuity. Hand-incised to the underside JMP and 2013, identifying Joppa Mountain Pottery. Founded in 1995 by Ann and McDonald Crosby, the Rutledge studio became known for individually made stoneware and raku, with McDonald Crosby recognized as the master potter. Their work received national exposure through major craft venues and television features, and the studio developed a following among collectors of contemporary Southern pottery. Joppa Mountain Pottery emphasized individually wheel-thrown and hand-finished forms, with glaze variation considered part of the character of each piece. This pitcher is a particularly appealing example of that approach, combining substantial form, strong handwork and vivid two-tone glaze treatment.
