AVAILABLE FOR SHIPPING or LOCAL PICKUP > Measuring 15" in diameter overall and standing 2" tall to the extended flange rim, this large vintage Dutch Delftware charger was handmade and hand painted by De Delftse Pauw of Delft, Netherlands. The broad circular form incorporates a deeply recessed center surrounded by a dramatically scalloped and lobed flange, creating the substantial dimensional profile traditionally associated with a display charger or wall plaque. The central reserve presents a finely rendered Dutch landscape with two windmills, waterside cottages, trees, a solitary figure walking along the embankment and birds above the water. Executed in muted blue-gray, brown, ochre and black tones, the atmospheric scene is enclosed by concentric brown bands. The extended flange is richly decorated in the Delft polychrome tradition with large stylized blossoms in manganese, burgundy and ochre, accompanied by deep green foliage, smaller floral devices and bold cobalt-blue scrollwork following the undulating rim. The restrained landscape and strongly colored floral border create a particularly effective contrast. Reverse bears the hand-painted De Delftse Pauw factory mark composed of three stars above the initials DP and DELFT, together with the number 24 and additional painter and production notations. De Delftse Pauw was established in 1954 and continued the historic Delft tradition of individually handmade and hand-painted earthenware. An attached wire hanger permits immediate wall display.
