A collection of softcover issues of The Etude, a monthly music periodical published by Theodore Presser in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This group contains issues from 1904, including August (Volume 22, Number 8), September (Volume 22, Number 9), October, and November (Volume 22, Number 11). Each issue features illustrated paper covers with Art Nouveau-inspired floral patterns or neoclassical figurative designs and includes the tagline For the Teacher, Student and Lover of Music. The internal pages include instructional articles, musical theory discussions, and sheet music. Notable content includes Josef Hofmann’s The Making of an Artist and Daniel Batchellor’s Ear Training in Melody and Harmony. The rear covers display contemporary advertisements for musical instrument manufacturers and consumer goods, including Knabe Pianos, Walter Baker and Company Breakfast Cocoa, Ivers and Pond Pianos, and Vose Pianos. Dimensions measured against a tape measure: approx. H 35 cm x W 27 cm. Condition: The collection is in fair condition with age-related wear throughout. The paper covers and pages exhibit significant toning, foxing, and brittleness. Edge wear is prominent, including chipping, creasing, and small tears to the fragile wrappers. The spines show considerable wear and fragility. Staining is visible on several covers, notably the October issue.
