A group of four issues of The Etude: For the Teacher, Student and Lover of Music, a monthly musical periodical published by Theodore Presser in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The collection includes Volume 22, Numbers 3 through 6, dated March, April, May, and June 1904. The publications are large-format softcover magazines featuring decorative wrappers with Art Nouveau-style illustrations printed in monochrome inks. The March issue cover is printed in brown ink and depicts a woman playing a double flute. The April issue, printed in blue ink, shows a male organist at the keyboard with a four-line verse by Lowell. The May issue is printed in green ink and features a woman with a lyre seated between classical columns. The June issue, also in green ink, displays three winged cherubs playing musical instruments within a floral border. The June cover bears a handwritten ownership signature in the lower right corner that reads John Herbert Marshall. The interior of each issue contains instructional articles for music students and teachers, printed musical scores, and contemporary advertisements for musical instruments and educational materials. The back covers are dedicated to full-page period advertisements, including promotions for Knabe Pianos, Ivers and Pond Pianos, Vose Pianos, and Walter Baker and Company Breakfast Cocoa. Dimensions: Height approx. 13.5 inches (34.3 cm) as measured against a ruler. Condition: The collection shows signs of age and handling consistent with paper ephemera of this period. All issues exhibit toning and scattered foxing throughout. There is significant edge chipping and multiple small tears to the covers and spines. The wrappers show minor losses, particularly at the corners and along the edges. The June issue has a small area of surface loss on the left side of the front cover. The ownership signature on the June cover is in ink. Spines show some degradation and fragility.
