This lot consists of two stereoview cards published by B. W. Kilburn, depicting scenes from the British occupation of Pretoria during the Second Boer War. Both cards comprise two sepia-toned photographic prints mounted on heavy buff-colored cardstock. The first card, numbered 14113, is titled The advance guard of Lord Roberts army taking possession of Pretoria, S. A. and shows British soldiers in service dress and pith helmets positioned in a large open square with Victorian-style buildings in the background. The second card, numbered 14115, is titled All Hail! To Britains Loyal Sons, Pretoria, S. A. and depicts a large military formation standing in front of the Dutch Reformed Church (Groot Kerk) on Church Square. Both cards feature printed margins identifying the distributor as JAMES M. DAVIS, with offices in New York, St. Louis, Liverpool, Toronto, and Sydney. The right margin bears the copyright information: Copyright 1901, by B. W. Kilburn. The reverse of the cards is printed with the publisher imprint: Photographed and Published by B. W. KILBURN, Littleton, N. H. Dimensions: W approx. 17.8 cm (measured against a ruler). Condition: The cards exhibit age-appropriate wear, including minor rounding of the corners and light fraying along the edges. There is evidence of scattered light foxing and surface staining, particularly visible in the sky areas of the photographs. The cardstock remains structurally sound without significant creasing or tears.
