This lot consists of two antique stereoview cards, likely albumen prints, mounted on curved cardstock. The first card, titled 745 FAIRY GROTTO, depicts a subterranean cavern scene with prominent ice or rock formations. The mount is printed with C. Bierstadt, Publisher, Niagara Falls, N.Y. on the left margin and Sold only by Underwood & Underwood, Baltimore, Md. - Ottawa, Kas. on the right margin. The second card, dated 1900, is titled 13689. City Imperial Volunteers at Cape Town, South Africa and shows British soldiers and their equipment stationed on a dock alongside a large steamship during the Boer War era. The front of this mount is marked on the left James M. Davis, New York, St. Louis, Liverpool, Toronto, Sydney. and on the right Copyright 1900, by B. W. Kilburn. The reverse of the card bears the printed mark Photographed and Published by B. W. Kilburn, - Littleton, N. H. Both cards feature two nearly identical photographs intended to create a three-dimensional effect when viewed through a stereoscope. Width approx. 17.8 cm (measured against a ruler). Condition: Both cards exhibit age-related wear including surface soiling, foxing, corner bumping, and minor edge abrasions. The reverse sides show significant condition issues, including heavy water staining, substantial paper loss to the backing layer, and remnants of previous mounting or adhesive.
