Large oil on canvas landscape painting, signed C. Soutter at the lower right, depicting a tranquil river winding through a richly wooded countryside beneath a broad luminous sky. Tall mature trees frame the right side of the composition, while lower shrubs, grasses, and flowering plants line the opposite bank and foreground, drawing the eye toward softly rendered distant hills. The scene is painted with a refined, atmospheric approach, combining delicate tonal transitions in the sky and water with more textured brushwork throughout the foliage, grasses, and rocky shoreline. Warm greens, ochres, russets, and muted autumnal tones are balanced by cool blues and grays in the river and distant landscape, creating a peaceful sense of depth and natural light. Presented in an ornate gilt-toned frame with layered scrolling foliate and geometric relief decoration. The frame has some scuffs and scratches, along with dings and minor losses at a couple of the corners consistent with age and handling. Sight measures 35.75" x 35.75". Frame measures 43.75" x 43.75".
