Scarce antique brass railroad switch lock manufactured by Slaymaker of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The sliding dust cover is marked N.O.&N.E., V.S.&P., and A.&V., representing the New Orleans & Northeastern Railroad, Vicksburg, Shreveport & Pacific Railway, and Alabama & Vicksburg Railway. These connected Southern railroad lines used this combined lock system. The reverse dust cover reads "To Get Key Out Close The Lock," and the brass shackle is marked "Slaymaker Lancaster, PA.? Includes the pictured key. The lock has been tested and works. Dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, circa 1890–1915. Measures approximately 3.5 inches x 2.5 inches. Displays an aged brass patina, scratches, surface wear, and evidence of railroad use appropriate for its age. This piece came from the railroad collection of Mr. Percy Hill of Magnolia, Mississippi.
