Vintage Buttons in Garrott Candy Box and E-Z Kit

An old confectionery box packed with a working sewing basket's worth of buttons. The box is gold and black embossed card about 6.5 inches long, printed The Antique Package, Filled with Choice Modern Confections, from the House of Garrott, Net Weight Full Pound, over a coach and four scene; the consignor note gave it as a Carrot brand box, but the lid reads Garrott and it is a candy box, not a button maker's package. Inside are five small partitioned trays holding an estimated two hundred or more buttons sorted by color: mother of pearl and shell buttons in many sizes with good luster, plain white and cream, navy and black plastic and glass, brown and taupe, plus fabric-covered buttons, pierced filigree metal buttons, a pair of gilt military-style buttons with a raised device, black faceted glass buttons and a short length of black beaded trim. Also present are a small plastic bag and a paper envelope of loose buttons and a folded E-Z Sewing Kit packet, U.S. Patent No. 2130873, which appears unopened; its contents were not verified. A paper ruler sticker inside the lid is printed Wright-Patterson AFB Educational Outreach. Shell and pearl buttons are the ones sewing and craft buyers hunt for, and there are a good many here. Condition of the buttons is very good; the box is fair, with worn corners, split edges and rubbing to the gold. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
