One composition features a monumental tree overlooking rolling farmland with a horse-drawn wagon in the distance. Both employ Alexander's characteristic decorative palette of greens, yellow, grey, blue and warm earth tones with strong black linear accents. Artist Biography Margo Alexander (1894–1965), also recorded as Marguerite Alexander, was an American painter, muralist and printmaker associated particularly with California. She was born in 1894 and died in Los Angeles in 1965. She became known for decorative painting, murals and silkscreen work. Alexander established a substantial studio operation in Los Angeles, at one point employing approximately six full-time artists. In addition to paintings and murals, she produced commercial decorative art and developed the colourful serigraphs marketed as “Sophisticated Provincials.” Her career extended beyond printmaking. Contemporary reporting describes her producing large murals, while later historical reporting notes that she also designed fabrics, theatrical sets and costumes. She was active in the Los Angeles art community and served as head of Women Painters of the West.
