2008-S Bald Eagle Commem Proof CLAD Half Dollar

A 2008-S Bald Eagle commemorative half dollar, proof, capsuled on the ribbon in the navy Mint case with outer box and certificate. This coin is CLAD, and that word belongs in the title because bidders assume a commemorative half must be silver. It is not. The Mint certificate names it in its own words as a Proof Clad Half-Dollar, meaning copper nickel over a copper core, so there is no silver and no melt value to quote. The 2008 date is clear on the obverse and the S mint mark sits on the reverse below AMERICA. The coin is a deep mirror proof with frosted devices, no wear, no rim dings, no fingerprints, capsule uncracked. One honest flag: the reverse photograph shows a green tinted patch in the right field. The same cast appears on other lots from this consignment, so it is likely a lighting reflection, but check it in hand. The 2008 program marked the bald eagle coming off the endangered species list in 2007. Estimated Value: $12 to $22. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
