The obverse is an Indian Head cent worn to a flat silhouette, with parts of UNITED and AMERICA still readable. Only 186 can be made out of the date; the fourth digit is buried under a green deposit at the bottom rim and cannot be resolved. The date is not legible on the coin. The attribution comes from the consignor's flip and is unverified. The reverse is completely blank. No wreath, no shield, no ONE CENT, no lettering, no rim detail, just a smooth brown disc with two small pits and staining. We are not calling this a mint error and no bidder should buy it as one. An obverse that still carries legend letters paired with a featureless reverse points to metal removed after the coin left the Mint by grinding, filing or sanding; one common source is an abandoned love token, a coin smoothed on one side so initials could be engraved.
