A 90 percent silver Mercury dime dated 1941, with a D mint mark on the reverse at the base of the fasces just left of ONE. Both the date and the mint mark sit in dark toned areas, so neither reads as crisply as it should, but both are legible. Design detail is decent for a lightly to moderately circulated coin, with part of the wing feathers and hair strands present and the fasces bands showing. The surfaces are the problem. Both faces carry heavy mottled dark brown, black and amber toning in irregular blotches, and the reverse shows distinct green and teal deposits in the left field and around the base of the fasces that read as verdigris. Bright silver shows only on the raised high points, giving the coin a patchy, stripped look. No luster, no rim damage, no holes, no scratches of note. It holds about 0.0723 troy ounce of pure silver, roughly $4.75 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, and metal moves, so check spot before you bid. Denver struck the fewest 1941 dimes of the three mints. Estimated Value: $5 to $8. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
