Two 90 percent silver Mercury dimes from the last years of the series. The 1941 is the better coin, moderately circulated with most wing feathers and hair strands visible, light golden gray toning with warm amber fields, and no damage. Its reverse mint mark position is in focus and empty, so it reads as a Philadelphia strike. The second coin is a problem piece. The obverse is covered in irregular dark brown, orange brown and black staining with pitted looking patches across the portrait and fields, and the reverse is likewise blotchy. That reads as environmental damage, not attractive toning. The staining sits on the last digit of the date, which reads as 1945 but is compromised, and it also covers the reverse mint mark position, so no mint is claimed for it. The pair holds about 0.145 troy ounce of pure silver, roughly $9.50 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, and metal moves, so check spot before you bid. Dimes stayed 90 percent silver through 1964, so every Mercury dime is silver. Estimated Value: $10 to $15. Sold as-is. Photos are the most accurate description of this lot.
