Eight modern golden dollars, and not one holds any gold or any silver. Six are Sacagawea dollars struck in manganese brass over a copper core, and all six read 2000 with a P mint mark just below and right of the date. The other two are Presidential dollars showing James Madison, the fourth President, with the Statue of Liberty reverse. On that series the date and mint mark are incused on the edge, and the edges were not photographed, so no year is claimed for those two. All eight are uncirculated with full detail and no wear on the high points. The Sacagaweas keep bright brassy luster, and several carry mottled pale greenish gray patches and small dark specks, ordinary spotting on this alloy rather than damage. The Madison pieces are duller and matte with a light haze. The golden dollar never caught on at the checkout counter because the paper dollar stayed in print, so bags of 2000-P coins sat in vaults and uncirculated examples are still easy to find.
