Three Eisenhower dollars, copper-nickel clad, with no silver content. The dates and mint marks read 1972 with no mint mark, 1977-D and 1978-D. All three are grey to light golden with no wear on the high points, but the surfaces need a plain warning. The 1978-D carries a heavy patch of fine hairline scratches across the cheek, ear and neck, and the 1972 has dense fine hairlines over the whole portrait with a grainy matte look. Those surfaces show hairlines consistent with an old cleaning, and PCGS and NGC would return such a coin as details rather than a straight grade. The coins are not unnaturally bright, so a light wiping is a possibility rather than a certainty. The 1977-D is the cleanest of the three. One reverse has a scratch through the eagle's body and another shows light hairlining in the field. No rim damage or corrosion. Teaching point: the 1972 Philadelphia issue comes in three reverse types, told apart by the shape of the islands below Florida. Estimated Value: $4 to $7. Sold as-is.
