1964 Kennedy Half 90 Percent Silver Hairlined

A 1964 Kennedy half dollar in 90 percent silver, with no mint mark under the eagle tail on a clear, in-focus reverse, so this is a Philadelphia coin. Design detail is full and there is no circulation wear, but the surfaces are disturbed. The coin is dull gray-white with a grainy matte look, and the surfaces show numerous fine hairlines consistent with an old cleaning. PCGS and NGC would return a coin like this in a details holder rather than give it a straight grade. There is also a prominent dark brown to black spot on the cheek in front of the ear with a smaller dark speck below it, dark flecks on the jaw and under the eye, scattered tan and dark specks elsewhere on the obverse, and light tan-gray toning with a few dark specks and hairlines on the reverse. Those dark spots may be corrosion. The silver is unaffected by any of it. The coin holds 0.3617 troy ounces of pure silver, roughly $23.85 at recent prices near $66 per ounce, and metal moves, so check spot before you bid. Estimated Value: $24 to $30. Sold as-is.
