A double-sided Second World War-era escape and evasion (E&E) map printed on fabric, identified as Sheet C and Sheet D of the series. Sheet C provides coverage of Holland, Belgium (excluding the west coast), north-east France, and west and central Germany at a scale of 1:1,000,000. Sheet D covers south-east France, south-west Germany, and Switzerland (excluding the south-east) at the same scale, further featuring a large-scale inset map of the Belgium and Germany new frontier at a scale of 1:250,000. The map includes a detailed legend for road types, international frontiers, former frontiers, and special motorways. The corner is marked with the designation 43/D. Such maps were issued to aircrews to assist in navigation if shot down in occupied territory, chosen for their durability and silent use. Dimensions: approx. 69 cm x 66 cm (measured against a tape measure). Condition: The map is in good period condition with expected unfinished, frayed edges typical for fabric maps cut from a larger bolt. There is some minor yellowing and light staining consistent with age. The printed details and colours remain sharp and legible across both sides.
