A swing-mounted First World War medal group, comprising the 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal, and the Victory Medal, awarded to Private J. Gray of the 19th Canadian Infantry Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. The 1914-15 Star is struck in bronze and features the royal monogram of King George V beneath a crown, with the dates 1914-15 on a central scroll. The reverse is officially stamped 55211 PTE J. GRAY. 19/CAN:INF:. The British War Medal is struck in silver, featuring the profile of King George V on the obverse and St George on horseback on the reverse. The edge is officially stamped 55211 PTE J. GRAY 19-CAN-INF. The Victory Medal is struck in bronze, featuring a winged figure of Victory on the obverse and the inscription THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 1914-1919 within a laurel wreath on the reverse. The edge is officially stamped 55211 PTE J. GRAY 19-CAN-INF. The group is swing-mounted for wear on a metal mounting bar, the reverse of which bears the stamped maker's mark SHIRBRO. The medals are suspended from their original, period-correct ribbons. Total weight: 103.24 g Width of mounting bar approx. 10.2 cm (measured against a tape measure in inches). Condition: The medals are in good original condition with a natural aged patina. The silver British War Medal exhibits significant dark toning and tarnish across both surfaces. The bronze 1914-15 Star and Victory Medal show minor surface oxidation and small spots of verdigris within the recessed details of the design. The original ribbons show expected signs of age including light surface soiling, minor fading, and slight fraying at the upper edges where they are attached to the mounting bar.
