Two cast metal relief plaques featuring literary and historical themes. The first is a circular white metal plaque, likely pewter, produced as a promotional item for Moffat's National Stoves. The obverse depicts Burns Cottage in Ayr, Scotland, framed by a border of thistles and an inscribed banner reading BURNS COTTAGE AYR. The reverse bears the maker's mark MOFFAT'S NATIONAL STOVES and shows the reverse of the cottage relief. The second plaque is an oval bronze-toned metal relief of the Italian poet Dante Alighieri. He is shown in profile wearing a traditional laurel wreath, with the name DANTE inscribed vertically to the left. The reverse of this plaque is fitted with a soldered wire hanging ring. Dimensions (measured against a ruler): Circular plaque diameter approx. 8.9 cm; Oval plaque height approx. 11.4 cm. Condition: The Burns Cottage plaque exhibits surface oxidation, dark pitting, and general surface wear consistent with age. The Dante plaque displays light wear to the raised highlights of the bronze-toned patina and some minor surface scratches on the reverse. The hanging hardware on the Dante plaque is securely attached.
