African hand-carved ebony wood figures, presented as a pair of carvings depicting a man and a woman in traditional attire, attributed to the Makonde or Maasai people of Kenya and Tanzania. The carvings are crafted from dense dark hardwood with a highly polished black finish. The male figure is portrayed as a warrior, holding a long spear and wearing a draped garment over one shoulder. The female figure is rendered with hands clasped in front, wearing a textured skirt and stylised neck rings. Both figures feature elongated facial characteristics, high foreheads, and traditional hairstyles. Each stands on an integral, rectangular plinth base with incised geometric patterns along the sides. Dimensions: H approx. 21 cm (female figure); H approx. 20 cm (male figure) (Measured against a ruler). Condition: The figures are in good overall condition. There are minor surface scratches and faint nicks consistent with age and handling. No apparent restorations or significant losses are present.
