A vintage lithographed tinplate canister, attributed to McVitie and Price, dating to the early 20th century. The rectangular tin features a hinged lid and is decorated with a multi-coloured scene depicting 18th-century figures in Georgian-style dress before a half-timbered building. The lower margin is printed with the caption, TO WALK ABROAD WITH SALLY, referencing the English ballad Sally in Our Alley. The side panels are adorned with dark brown and gold foliate and scrollwork patterns. The lid originally featured a portrait of a woman, which is now significantly faded. The interior consists of unpainted metal. Dimensions (measured against a ruler, only inches shown): H approx. 11.5 cm x W approx. 8.3 cm. Condition: The item is in a heavily aged as found condition. The lithographed surface exhibits significant crazing, cracking, and areas of lifting. There is scattered paint loss, surface scratching, and oxidation throughout, particularly along the edges and seams. The interior shows tarnish and light oxidation consistent with age.
