A circular vintage powder compact by Stratton of Birmingham, England. The lid features an ornate classical design with a central cream-coloured cartouche bordered by gold-toned scrolls, set against a dark hunter green ground. The composition is further embellished with intricate gold-toned foliate and scroll-work patterns. The reverse displays a continuous, dense gold-toned floral and foliate scroll pattern on a matching green ground. Constructed from gold-toned metal with an enamel-style finish, the piece features a thumb-piece latch and a hinged lid. The interior contains a circular mirror and a base housing a removable circular mesh sifter. The internal hinge is incised with the marks STRATTON MADE IN ENGLAND. Diameter approx. 7 cm (measured against a ruler). Condition: The compact is in good vintage condition overall. There is minor surface wear to the gold-toned edges of the exterior. The internal mirror shows some age-related clouding and minor silvering loss around the perimeter. The interior base shows some residual powder and a small brown stain to the liner. The mesh sifter is present but retains some remnants of adhesive tape. The hinge and clasp are functional.
