This is a WWII German wooden transport crate for a chemical decontamination pump sprayer (Entgiftungsspritze), repurposed post-war as a GI souvenir shipping crate. Measuring 7 in H x 27 in W x 8 in D (17.8 cm H x 68.6 cm W x 20.3 cm D), the lid exterior is stenciled with the title "Entgiftungsspritze". The interior lid retains its original printed paper operating instruction sheet (Gebrauchsanweisung), and the side exterior retains a paper manufacturer label from "Gloria" dated 1944. Following the end of WWII, the crate was used by a U.S. Army GI to ship war trophies home. The exterior top lid is hand-written in red grease pencil with a mailing address: "FROM S-SGT Robert Key, HQ Bty 989 FA Bn, APO # 758 C/O PM New York NY" addressed to "Mr & Mrs Walter Key, Beal St RR #2, Logansport Indiana". The crate is in good historical condition. The raw pine wood structure is solid with intact metal hinges and latch clasp. The internal instruction label and external manufacturer label are mostly complete with typical age toning and light foxing. The red GI mailing inscriptions remain vivid and legible.
