Pair WWII German Hassia Pocket Flashlights

Dating to the WWII era, this pair of German military pocket flashlights is constructed of pressed steel and embossed "HASSIA" on the bodies. Each features a hinged blue-filter lens cover, internal reflector and bulb assembly, leather hanging tab, and side-mounted control. One retains an olive field-gray finish, while the other has been heavily overpainted in silver. Equipped with a side switch, and a hinged filter cap mean for dim, subdued signaling during nighttime operations, this was used by the Wehrmacht and civil air defense personnel to prevent light detection by enemy aircraft during blackouts. Condition varies between the two examples. The olive-finished flashlight shows scratches, scattered paint loss, and general field wear. The silver-painted example exhibits extensive overpainting, oxidation, rust, finish loss, and heavier surface wear. Leather tabs show age-related wear. Untested; functionality is unknown. Each measures approximately 4 3/4 in. x 3 in. x 2 1/2 in. A representative pair of German WWII-era personal field lighting equipment with appeal for collectors of Wehrmacht equipment and military accessories.
