Austro-Hungarian Model 1888 knife bayonet paired with its original steel scabbard, manufactured for use with the Mannlicher M1888 infantry rifle and later the M1888/90. This standard enlisted pattern is distinguished by a straight crossguard with muzzle ring and lacks the hooked quillon of NCO versions. The bayonet measures approximately 14 3/4 inches in length, with a straight, spear-point blade of about 9 3/4 to 10 inches long and 1 inch wide, exhibiting a broad fuller on each side. The hilt consists of dark wood grip scales attached by two fasteners, a steel bird’s-head pommel stamped with an indistinct numeral, and a T-shaped mortise with a spring locking catch. The blade shows signs of polishing, fine scratches, and scattered oxidation. The scabbard, finished in dark steel with a round frog stud, side-secured throat, and ball finial, shows age-appropriate wear.
