Featuring period-mixed component markings, this German WWII M31 military mess kit (Kochgeschirr) consists of an aluminum body pot with a wire bail handle and a fitted lid/skillet with a folding metal handle bracket. The bail ear attachment loop on the body is stamped FW 41 for 1941, while the hinge bracket on the lid is stamped REF 40 indicating 1940 production. This example displays significant, honest field wear throughout, including extensive paint chipping and loss across the exterior surfaces, surface oxidation on the steel handle and bail wire, and light denting or scuffing consistent with active service. Measures 6 x 8.5 inches. A character-rich piece of authentic combat field gear, well-suited for World War II militaria displays and equipment collections.
