Dating to 1951, this West German field canteen features a classic post-WWII military design closely following wartime M31 patterns. Constructed of aluminum with a textured felt/wool cover, dark leather harness, and a black bakelite screw cap, the assembly includes an olive drab painted aluminum cup secured by a metal folding handle bracket. The handle attachment plate on the metal cup is stamped with the manufacturer code and date mark CPL 51. It shows light wear consistent with age and field use, including minor edge paint loss and scuffing on the olive green cup, light oxidation on metal hardware, and surface age wear to the leather harness and wool cover. Measures 10 x 7 at its widest point. An excellent, complete piece of early Cold War field gear, ideal for collectors of European militaria or post-war equipment.
