Manufactured by Simson & Co. in Suhl, Germany, this early 20th-century Mauser rifle bayonet dates to the pre-WWI/WWI era. The steel single-edged blade features a distinct fuller along each side and is stamped at the ricasso with "SIMSON & CO / SUHL".Fitted with dark wood grip scales secured by rivets, the metal pommel features a working release button and displays a stamped serial number reading "G 1987". This example shows authentic field and age wear throughout, including generalized surface oxidation, scattered light pitting, scuffing, and minor impact marks on the steel components. The wood grips exhibit expected darkening, surface wear, and handling marks consistent with age and storage. Overall length measures 16 inches with an 11.25-inch blade; total weight is 344 grams. A solid, honest piece of Imperial German military cutlery that presents well for display alongside arms and field gear of the period.
