This French Model 1886 "Rosalie" cruciform spike bayonet was constructed in France during the late 19th to early 20th century for the Lebel rifle. The bayonet features a cast aluminum grip with an integrated press-stud locking mechanism, and retains its steel crossguard with a hooked quillon. The quillon is marked with a small "B" inside a diamond cartouche, and the back of the hilt groove bears the stamp "4 X 25." The long, four-groove cruciform steel blade measures 13.25 inches, while the overall length is 18 inches and the total weight is 379 grams. Accompanied by its original tubular steel scabbard with a round mounting ring, this example shows age-consistent patina, surface oxidation, and generalized pitting on the steel fittings, with minor surface scratches and scuffs on the aluminum handle. The press-stud button remains functional. This piece is a representative example of WWI-era French military issue.
