Published by Cigaretten-Bilderdienst in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld in 1940, this original hardcover cigarette card album is titled Die Malerei des Barock (The Painting of the Baroque) and is part of the 1st to 100th thousand print run. Featuring scholarly text written by Hermann Wiemann and a foreword provided by Professor Dr. Emil Waldmann, former director of the Kunsthalle Bremen, the volume presents an art historical survey of Baroque painting. Bound in tan paper-covered boards with black cloth-backed spine and embossed gold lettering on the front cover, the interior contains complete tipped-in color photo card plates reproducing masterpieces by Peter Paul Rubens, Jacopo Tintoretto, Nicolas Poussin, and other master painters. The volume measures12.2 x 11.5 inches. The covers show edge rubbing, corner creasing/bumping, and mild surface smudging. Interior pages remain firmly bound, clean, and complete with all color plates present and minor, expected paper toning along the outer margins.
