Published by Cigaretten-Bilderdienst in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld in 1938, this original hardcover cigarette card album is titled Die Malerei der Gotik und Früh-Renaissance (Gothic and Early Renaissance Painting). Part of the 151 to 250 thousandth printingand featuring scholarly art historical text, the volume surveys European painting from the late medieval period through the Early Renaissance across Italy, France, and northern Europe. Bound in teal-green paper-covered boards with a black cloth spine backing and embossed gilt title lettering on the front cover, the interior contains complete tipped-in color photo card plates reproducing masterpieces by Jean Fouquet, Giovanni Bellini, Andrea del Castagno, Alessio Baldovinetti, Vittore Carpaccio,and Domenico Veneziano. The volume measures 12.2 x 11.5 inches. The covers show light edge rubbing, minor corner wear, and subtle surface scuffing. Interior pages remain firmly bound, clean, and complete with all tipped-in color plates present andminor, expected paper toning near the outer margins.
