This color lithograph commemorates military service dedicated to Musketier Schmidt in the 6th Company of the Infantry Regiment "Kaiser Wilhelm" ("6. Comp. Inf. Regt. Kaiser-Wilhelm") from 1897 to 1899. Published by M. Hirschfeld in Berlin ("M. Hirschfeld, Berlin"). The central composition displays infantrymen in full uniform in a landscape setting with castles in the background. The upper border features oval portraits of Emperor Wilhelm II and regional rulers framed by laurel wreaths, state flags, and coats of arms. Banners feature slogans including "Es lebe hoch das deutsche Heer, Des Vaterlandes Schutz und Wehr" ("Long live the German army, the fatherland's protection and defense"), "Einigkeit macht stark" ("Unity creates strength"), and"Mit Gott für König und Vaterland" ("With God for King and Fatherland"). The bottom border bears the motto "Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit" ("In memory of my service time"). The print displays light age toning and minor spotting along the margins. It sits in a hand-carved pyramid tramp-art wooden frame with carved corner bosses that shows light edge wear, small wood chips, and noticeable surface loss along the bottom left side, backed with period German newspaper remnants from Giessen dated March 1899. Dimensions: H. 26 in. x W. 22 in. Image size: H. 21-1/2 in. x W. 17-1/4 in.
