ca. Mid-19th century; Lancaster County paint decorated field keg water cask with construction and decoration attributed to Joseph Lehn. This coopered keg has forged iron bands, tin bung-spout and loose wire tote-handle. The surface was over-painted and dry-scraped to reveal Lehn's trademark red-ochre paint. The cask retains some original yellow pinstripe bands. These casks were carried into fields as canteens for water.; 7 1/2" dia. X 12 1/2"H.; Condition: Dry-scraped surface removed any evidence of original pussy willow bands to metal bands. Some residue of old green paint remains. Two staves have cracks with repairs. One band is a replacement, as well as the swing handle.
