ca. dated 1860; Attributed to Pennsylvania, poplar half-lap and nail constructed traveler’s tunk with arched lid in reddish-brown painted with simple pinstripe detail and lid with large "1860" date. The trunk appears homecrafted with cut nail fasteners, arched top lid on iron surface mounted butt hinges and a hook and screw keeper. The interior is entirely lined in wallpaper and has a lift-out tray; 24" x 12" x 10"H; Condition: The wood is believed to be poplar, which is why it is attributed to Pennsylvania. The original chest lock was removed and chest currently has simple "make-do" tin patch over lock hole. Some noted re-nailing of chest with round head box nails.
