An early hand-cranked disc phonograph or gramophone mechanism mounted to a rectangular solid hardwood base. The assembly features a cast iron frame supporting a central turntable platter with a worn green felt covering. The mechanicalsystem includes a hand crank with a wooden handle, a pulley system currently joined by a length of twine, and a gear-driven spindle. A key feature of the drive train is a three-ball centrifugal governor assembly designed to regulaterotational speed. A long, curved metal tone arm is mounted at one corner of the base. Included are two detached metal components representing the housing and diaphragm cover for a reproducer assembly. The serial number 2819 is stamped intothe surface of the wood base within a rectangular border. Wood base: 10 inches x 12 inches Turntable platter: 10 inches diameter Tone arm: 18 inches length.The item shows significant surface oxidation, rust, and pitting on all iron and steel components. Brass parts exhibit a heavy patina and areas of verdigris. The hardwood base has numerous surface scratches, dings, and dark stains.
