An Edison Amberola X tabletop cylinder phonograph manufactured by Thomas A. Edison, Inc. in Orange, New Jersey. The unit is housed in a dark-stained oak case featuring a hinged lid and a decorative metal front grille with a geometricstar-and-triangle fretwork pattern. A metal identification plate on the internal mechanism is marked Edison Amberola X and lists patent dates of October 27, 1892, and May 31, 1898. The black enameled metal base of the mechanism featuresthe Thomas A. Edison signature trademark in gold script. The phonograph includes its original side-mounted winding crank with a turned wooden handle. Currently mounted on the mandrel is a blue celluloid Blue Amberol cylinder record titledMusical Wizard & The Bell Boy by Spencer & Campbell. The underside of the case retains a partially extant paper notice label with form number 632-8-10-13, dating the manufacture to approximately 1913.The wooden case exhibits surface scuffs, scratches, and minor finish wear consistent with age and use. The internal mechanical components show accumulated dust and minor tarnish. The paper notice label on the underside has significant tearing and loss.
