Elaborately decorated churn most likely made at the pottery of James Hamilton in Greensboro, Pa. Exciting to find this churn with the freehand-decorated collar that is very rarely seen in Western Pennsylvania. The churn features wonderfully executed fuchsia intermixed with dot and vining. This is above a series of freehand stripes and the capacity mark outlined in another ring of freehand. Brush blue freehand at the end of each handle and a stripe on the upper collar. The collar with a wreath of freehand decoration and a blue stripe around the base of the opening. Ca. 1860-1865. 15 1/2"H Collar with four edge chips on the underside of the bottom rim. Two chips on the front edge of the upper rim and a chip on the flat top. Nicks on the inner rim of the interior and several shallow chips on the bottom edge.
