These rare jars were made in Uniontown, PA and by David Greenland Thompson in Morgantown, WV in the early 1860s. This 2-gallon jar is attributed to Thompson based on the style of the woman, the hat she is wearing, and the long fan she is holding while standing between two trees. Supposedly there is symbolism to the trees and the woman being by herself. More than likely, we'll never know the true meaning behind the content of the decoration. 11 1/2"H Overuse of salt caused the mottling effect to the left portion of the decoration. Crazing lines in the making around the jar. 1" line at the base on the left side of the crock. Edge roughness and minor chip on bottom edge.
